To My Fellow Human
Dear Human,
If you are feeling uneasy today due to the social and political unrest in Los Angeles.
Anger. Fear. Anxiety. Grief. Helplessness.
Whichever you are feeling, it is completely valid—especially in times like these, when it feels like the ground is shifting under our feet. When leadership feels corrupt, when institutions fail to protect people, and when violence or injustice escalates, it’s natural to feel fear, anger, and a sense of helplessness.
If you’re seeing or hearing disturbing developments in Los Angeles tied to political violence or authoritarianism, please know you’re not alone in your concern. Many people are feeling unsettled, and it’s not irrational to fear that democracy or civil stability could be at risk, especially when the rhetoric becomes violent or communities are targeted.
Here are a few things to help ground and empower you:
1. Stay Informed — but Filter Wisely
Be intentional with your news sources. Disinformation and sensationalism fuel fear. Follow trusted, nonpartisan outlets and local journalists who prioritize accuracy and community safety.
2. Connect with Others
Fear can isolate. Reach out to friends, family, or community groups who are also navigating this. Talking it through can turn panic into purpose. Many grassroots groups in L.A. are actively organizing for justice and safety.
3. Know Your Rights and Resources
Whether it’s protest safety, immigration defense, or mental health, there are orgs in L.A. (like ACLU SoCal, CHIRLA, Esperanza Project, and mental health lines) working to support people through this.
4. Action is Antidote to Fear
Even small actions—donating, volunteering, writing, voting, calling elected officials—can reduce feelings of helplessness and channel fear into strength.
Protest. Dissent.
However, be strategic. This administration is purposely trying to provoke, inflame, instigate violence so that they can activate the inserruction act.
Please read up on insurrection act, remember knowledge is power.
We too, must respond with startergy and tact and not make it easy for the oppressors.
5. Protect Your Nervous System
Fear of civil unrest is traumatic. Your nervous system is doing its job—but you still deserve peace. Grounding exercises, breathwork, rest, and boundaries from social media and news are valid acts of resistance, too. Please take breaks.
